Bus
Roadways in Tanzania do not maintain the highest level of safety standards, but buses are often the only way (or most convenient way) to travel between local cities. There is quite an extensive network of buses with many routes offered throughout the country. The buses themselves, depending on the class, are not usually the most comfortable; they are known for wild overtaking rides that sometimes drive in the lane of opposite traffic more than the correct lane (like most African buses)! Here are a few of the major companies: Akamba Bus, Royal Coach, Dar Express and Sumry Buses.
Dala Dalas
These are the local public minibuses that roam the streets of Dar Es Salaam.
Train
There is an international rail connection that links Tanzania to Zambia called TAZARA, passing through the Tanzanian town of Mbeya. The domestic train runs from Dar Es Salaam to Kigoma/Mwanza and from Dar Es Salaam to Mbeya.
Plane
International flights that fly into Tanzania often land for a quick drop off at the Kilimanjaro International Airport, near Arusha, and then continue onwards to Dar Es Salaam. Many tourists decide to exit at Kilimanjaro airport to visit the Northern circuit attractions. Here are a few of the local airlines that operate domestic and East African flights: Precision Air, Coastal Aviation, RegionalAir and Fly 540.
